Plus, you’ll discover the 10 foods NOT to eat on a weight loss diet.
It’s Thanksgiving time and we have some really yummy foods to eat. I love cranberry and pumpkin so today I’m going to show you a really healthy and easy seasonal smoothie. It’s a pumpkin spice smoothie that tastes a lot like pumpkin pie filling. This smoothie has about 15-20 grams of protein and over 10 grams of fiber!
I’m using 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree. You can either get it canned or baki it yourself. Guys, double up on the pumpkin (1 cup).
I soaked almonds and cashews in water for about 12 hours and am going to add 10-12 almonds and 6 cashews. This will add creaminess as well as some healthy essential fat.
Add the 1/8 tsp. each of pumpkin spice and cinnamon. You can add the nutmeg to taste, so I’m going to add couple of dashes. Next add about 1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract and a couple of dashes of mineral salts. These pick up all the flavors and make them “pop”. Add about 1T of coconut oil if you want. This will add a little bit of a creamy texture and flavor.
We have good fats and protein from the nuts, but we’re still going to add some more protein. I am going to add about 1T Rice brand Protein and I find it very easy to digest. It has about 12 grams of protein and 1 gram of carbohydrates.
For sweetner, you can use raw honey, agave nectar or maple syrup. I’m going to use about 4 dates in mine. I’m also going to use a little bit of stevia. This particular stevia is the leaf that is ground up, so it is actually green in color. I like that because it’s the most whole form of the stevia. It’s very potent, so you don’t need to add too much.
I alreay had about 1 to 1-1/2 cup of water and ice to the blender and now it’s ready to go! My blender is 3hp so it may be a little loud!
You can test it out and change it up a bit if you need to. This will give you about 20 ounces of smoothie and will make a great breakfast. I’m going to be drinking this a lot over the holiday season.
Oh, almost forgot! You want to keep this smoothie as green as possible, so add something like spinach and blend it right up! This added nutrients and vitamins from the spinach. Keep it green!
Have a great Thanksgiving!

Today we are out hiking in the Joshua Tree area where I was born. We really love it out here. There was a fire that came through here a few years ago, but the desert has started to regenerate and there is live coming back.
I grew up here and as a matter of fact, this is my backyard. We have a house is down in the valley and this is a wonderful place to come back to and enjoy.
We just got back from our hike and we got a great workout in too!
I’m going to show you a quick breakfast that I make all the time. I’m using all of the ingredients that I use in the Easy Veggie Meal Plans. We’re going to start out with almonds, protein powder and fruit. I have soaked almonds (you can watch my other videos to see how to do this) and can now drain them so they are ready to go.
I have a protein mix that I prepared earlier and brought along with me. I use rice protein powder, a green super food powder with a little bit of strawberry kiwi flavor, some cinnamon, pecans and cacao nibs. You can also add some nutmeg and even pumpkin spice for a really great flavor which you can use in smoothies or protein treats too. Add the protein powder mix in with the almonds. Next, add banana and apple slices. Since its for 2 people, I am using a whole banana and apple, but if it would be just for me, then I would only use about a half. You can use any kind of fruit that you like for your own.
Add a little bit of water and mix it up so it ends up to be the consistency of a thick cereal. I have a great high energy breakfast with only a small amount of preparation needed.
I hope you enjoyed this. For more meals like this to help you stay lean and lose weight, please check out my recipes at www.EasyVeggieMealPlans.com

Today I’m going to show you how to make a great banana-blueberry smoothie. This smoothie is high in anti-oxidants, tons of great nutrients and lots of fiber.
You can find the recipe in my Easy Veggie Meal Plans, which is a 90 day vegetarian weight loss program. This particular one I’m doing is the female version which is a little less calories than the men. The nutrients are balanced out the same as the men’s though.
I’m going to be making this smoothie using my “Magic Bullet” blender. I got this for Christmas and I really love it. It’s fast which works with me very well.
Once you watch this video, got to my blog post at www.kardenaskitchen.com and I will have exact measurements listed there.
We’ll start with 1/2 cup of organic blueberries. I am using frozen which work great. They are a little less expensive than fresh blueberries, but they work great. Next, add 1/2 banana. I prefer organic as much as possible. Then, add 2 tsp. of ground flaxseed, which are great for essential fats as well as fiber. The blueberries have about 4 grams of fiber per cup as well, so this is going to be a great source of fiber.
Next, you will want to use some form of sweetner such as dates, raisins or stevia. This particular form of stevia is green. This is the dehydrated green leaf. It’s very powerful, so you don’t need to use much. The clear stevia crystals is processed and my goal is to eat everything in it’s most natural form. That’s why I use the green stevia.
Next, I’ll add 2 tsp of almond butter. I like to add rice protein by Nurtabiotic (about 2 tsp). Next I am going to add a little sprinkle of cinnamon. Cinnamon is great for restoring the pancreas and increasing circulation. I’m also going to add a dash of cyanne pepper, which helps increase your metabolism and helps increase your body’s ability to move oxygen and it also helps drive nutrients to your cells. It also helps cut fat in the blood.
Don’t forget to add greens. I like to use either organic baby spinach or Earth’s promise green powder. You can find many variety of greens at your stores such as barley grass, herbs, wheat grass, alfalfa grass, some have probiotics or enzymes. I’m acutally going to use both. Add 1-2 tsp of the green powder and then add some spinach. This is going to be about 350 calories, so you don’t want to have too much. So, you really need to watch out for that.
I’m going to add some water. You can add ice, but because I’m using frozen blueberries, that will make it cold enough for me.
Now it’s all ready to blend! What is really cool about this magic bullet, you can just unscrew the blade and attach a drink top and this is the cup you can use to take with you.
Enjoy your smoothie!

10 Foods NOT to eat on a Veggie Diet from Kardena’s Kitchen
Get your FREE 7-day Vegetarian Meal Plan from:
http://www.KardenasKitchen.com
Plus, you’ll discover the 10 foods NOT to eat on a weight loss diet.
These are a couple of items on my list of 10 foods NOT to eat if you are following a vegetarian weight loss diet.
The first thing is something that many people like to have in the morning and that is a protein shake. They look very healthy, but what is interesting about these is they have too much sugar per serving. There are usually 2 servings in each bottle, so you are eating way too much sugar. Read the labels for these.
Another product I’ve found is a protein shake with greens. Although I love greens, this shake is loaded with sugar. The greens are great, but I dont like them in this form of a protein drink.
Protein or breakfast bars are next and tend to be loaded with sugars. They need to add binders and extra sugars to them for taste and that translates into more sugar. For example, a Kashi bar does have a good amount of protein, however, the sugar count is higher than the protein count. You need to read the labels on these.
Next is whole wheat bread. All bread is made of wheat, but what you want to watch out for is even if it says its whole wheat, it may be just glorified flour. A great test to see if it is whole wheat is to ball up a slice in your hand. If it holds the ball, that is a great indicator that it is not whole wheat. This doughy ball will turn into sugar very quickly after you eat it. When it turns into sugar in your body, it will turn into fat very quickly as well. You want to pick a whole wheat bread that doesn’t ball up and is actually a little chunky or rough.
Frozen foods are another trap you can fall into. These are great if you are on the go, however, they arent so good because they are very high in sodium and carbs. They sound great, but the carb content is just too high. You can find some that are ok, so be sure to check the protein and sodium levels very closely and balance them out in your diet. You can get away with eating some good ones once in awhile.
One more thing is a Slim Fast breakfast drink. I want to show you this one because the label can be very deceiving. You always want to look beyond the label on the front and look at the list of ingredients on the back first. Interestingly enough, the first ingredient in this protein shake is sugar and then oil. Now, if you are making your own protein drink, would you add sugar and oil to it? Nope! The next ingredient is protein powder, however, in one serving there is only 2 grams of protein. You need to add 8-ounces of milk to get the 10 grams of protein. So, basically, you are drinking a sugar and milk shake. Get rid of it!
A lot of people love to have burritos, wraps or quesadillas. Thats great, but you need to be careful of the tortillas and the flour that is in them. Most tortillas are in the 15-20 grams of refined carbs, so go for a whole wheat brand. I have some healthier options. One is a whole wheat tortilla by the “La Tortilla Factory” and is low-carb and very high in fiber. These are the kind of tortillas you want to find.
Another option for burritos and tacos is using lettuce to add that extra crunch. Simply rinse them off and use them as the wrap. You can use any variety such as butter lettuce or romaine. These will give you fiber and lots of nutrients and energy as well.
Another healthy option is using raw, organic coconut oil. A lot of people use this when they cook or they put it on their toast. I use this in my smoothies and in desserts. Coconut oil actually helps to pull cholesterol out of your body. It also helps to stabilize your blood sugar and your energy. Its also good for your skin and hormones levels and actually helps you to lose weight.
Another option for vegetarians who need some extra protein is sunflower and pumpkin seeds. They are very versatile as you can add them to your salad, your smoothies and I also blend them up and use them as the meat in my burritos. These are easy to digest and they are very high in protein and zinc and have healthy oils for you. Your body is going to love you if you eat these!
These are just a couple of the items that Ive included on my list of 10 foods not to eat.
