A medical statistician wants to estimate the average weight loss of people who are on a new diet plan. In a preliminary study, he guesses that the standard deviation of the population of weight loss is about 11 pounds. How large a sample should he take to estimate the mean weight loss to within 3 pounds, with 91% confidence?
Technically speaking, losing weight is simple — just cut your daily intake of calories and exercise more. When your organism finds it cannot extract the necessary energy from the food you consume, it will start burning the fat deposits in waist and other parts of your body. So, the most natural way to lose weight is to keep to a diet, which reduces the energy your consume and do regular exercises to burn energy.
While this approach to weight loss is most natural and healthy, it is not easy. No wonder that a lot of so-called weight loss pills were developed, which make it easier to lose weight. One of the most popular categories of these pills are fat blockers and fat binders. They work by reducing the amount of fat that your organism assimilates from foods. Fat blockers (the most well-known example is Orlistat, marketed as Xenical) in particular inhibit the lipase enzyme in the intestines which breaks up fat making it ready for digestion. As a result, the fat cannot be absorbed by the organism so it passes freely through the bowel. Fat binders work by binding to the fat molecules, again making it unabsorbable by intestines. Fat blockers and binders have very nasty side effects (among them are uncontrollable foul-smelling anal discharges.) Naturally you cannot expect that removal of fats from your diet in such a way will be healthy.
Another category of weight loss supplements includes appetite suppressants. They reduce your appetite by making the organism think it is already full. Bloated and gaining a bit of belly fat? Sorry it’s long but I can’t seem to get any feedback.
I’m only 18 and have been active in gymnastics, P.E., cheer leading (and track about 1.5 years ago).I did competitive cheerleading and was so toned and skinny and I had a decent 6 pack. I loved that part of my life. I have always been very slim, muscular, no fat on my body. I could eat anything I wanted and how much I wanted. I don’t eat unhealthy though, especially not anymore. Our house never had oreos, doritos, coca cola, (sometimes ice cream), or lots of candy. Now that I have gotten older I am very conscious of fatty/fried/sodium-laden/packaged foods. I never really eat any artificial sweetner.
My last year in high school, I started to notice a difference. I got cellulite when I was 16. YES! Skinny girl in cheer leading and track with cellulite..more than some 22 year olds I might add. My senior year (Just last year), I had a bladder infection, and I was bloated and mild diarrhea. I went on antibiotics and took probiotics afterwards. They took stool samples and I was clear. I was visibly bloated not totally pregnant, but maybe I looked 2 months pregnant, with a rounded abdomen. The fullness is after my bellybutton, my xyphoid down to my bellybutton is fine. I thought maybe I was just getting fat so I began to work out everyday, sometimes twice a day. I restricted my diet to oatmeal in the morning, maybe snack of cheese stick, lunch is cottage cheese and sandwich, and dinner is a salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach. I try to drink lots of water, but I am not very good at it. I ate fruits and vegetables and the bloat never seemed to go away. My lower abs had become more doughy and so I worked out sometimes twice a day. Naturally I got hungry and depriving myself led to binge eating. I would eat a lot in one sitting because I just kept wanting to eat. I crave sweets all the time and I would always want chocolate. Then I had to work out to make up for the calories so the cycle stayed. Sometimes I would eat less and look better that day, but sometime I would eat a lot and then feel bloated or fat for days. I ate like 4 tablespoons of peanut butter and honey once — just for a snack. It was never junk food, but alot of food to make up for not having brownies /chocolate/ puddings and stuff around.
Now I thought I may have had candida since the antibiotics I used to clear my face. I attempted a candida diet for two days. Pathetic. I ate polenta with 7grams sugar almond milk and no fruit. I ate raw vegetables and meats. I was so low on energy and I didn’t seem to be losing any fat or losing any bloat.
I quit my intense workouts this spring. I thought maybe the muscles in my stomach were being worked inn an odd way… So now I am at college and all I want to do is eat — all the time. I crave brownies and chocolate chip cookies and chocolate anything! Now I still get bloated and instead of diarrhea, it takes longer for things to go through, even though I eat a good amount of fiber. I don’t think I have celiac – because I ate bread this Sunday and I didn’t throw up. I almost ALWAYS eat whole grain bread, pasta and grains
In the past few days I have eaten:
B1 nothing – I used to not do this
L1 a whole panini (prosciutto, sundried tomato, basil, cheese) and 1/4 cup chicken salad, one gelato
D1 chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream –they made me
B2 apple and bulgar wheat with tofu, squash, green peppers, organic carrot top greens, and organic tikki masala sauce (full bowl)
L2 banana, bowl of muesli, 2 whole wheat organic wraps
D2 1 wrap with 1/4 cups cashew butter (yes that’s a TON of fat) and large organic carrot
snack: apple
today:
tikki masala again , muesli ,cashew butter
L2 banana, apple, jamba juice (150 calories ) and luna protein bar (180)
And I’m pretty bloated right now.
I’ve tried fasting for a day to clear my system.I drank lots of water. It makes me a bit thinner, and low on energy, but the bloat always comes back. It’s like I am super hungry, then I eat and I am super bloated all day! I hate it. Now I sometimes skip meals to reduce the calories, and other times I eat like I used to in 8th grade – a lot.. Maybe my metabolism is weird. Maybe my digestive system is slow?

Okay so lower sugar and carbs? I used to only eat a bowl of oatmeal for my carbs. That was it. Oatmeal, then the rest of the day protein and vegetables and fruits.. still same problem.
Is there any other explanation why I must eat chocolate things, chocolately brownies..because I’m not craving gummy bears and chips. I won’t touch doritos, cheetos, twizzlers.. I just do not crave them.
Is the chocolate addictive as well as sugar?
Your diet includes too many carbohydrates. You should center you diet around protein, fat and vegetables. Sugar and refined carbohydrates will cause you to put on weight, and the most common area for that kind of fat deposition is around the middle. Get a book on low carb diets and don’t be afraid of eating fat, it’s the sugar that will do you harm.
Chocolate has many chemicals in it, and some can be, if not addictive, very comforting psychologically. It’s mainly the sugar. Any low carb diet requires you to taper off the carbs, because you need to ween your system off burning sugar for fuel and start burning fat instead. But it takes time to adjust and two days won’t tell you anything. Get some books – Atkins is good, and there are others. Get off the sugar train; it’s going nowhere you want to go.
Remember, carbohydrates are not an essential nutrient. You don’t need them in your diet at all. Any blood sugar you need, your body will make – you don’t need it from food.

Anyway, today I slept in late so I got a chance to get some feedback from yesterday’s video. Yesterday, I gave the tip of making sure your scale was calibrated correctly and linked to the original video where I got the suggestion from. In any case, they cited a study that conflicts with my advice of NOT weighing yourself daily. I still stand by that suggestion. In fact, they also indicate that an average of a few days during the week is the weekly number you should record. But many of you stated you will begin doing daily weigh-ins as I am doing. As I have stated numerous times, I am doing those solely for this documentation. I still stand by my assertion that you should not follow my example and you should only weigh yourself weekly. They do not cite the actual study, but rather findings of the study that indicate people who weighed themselves daily lost twice as much as people who weighed themselves weekly; and those who did not weigh themselves at all, actually gained weight. As I have stated, I believe daily weigh-ins without movement on the scale will cause negative emotions which will have a physical impact on your body as well as dragging you down out of that elevated Creative Spirit. As you know, I wholeheartedly believe that is a huge contributor to my success. In any case, you should discover what works for you and do that.

I’ve been counting calories for like as long as i can remember, and I’m growing sick and tired of it. Basically, for some foods i eat, i don’t know how many calories are in there, but even if i did,
is there a way to diet and lose weight WITHOUT COUNTING CALORIES? seirously, jeez
and it’s so hard to eat like 1200 calories every day.. how about days you have to go out for dinner? starve the whole day and eat 1200 at dinner? i don’t think that’s healthy at all :S sometimes, i NEED to overeat, what about these days? is a calorie-shifting diet good for me? a sample plan for someone maintaining 1300 calories per day?
UGH i hate counting calories when eating out, for example, a caesar salad.. how am i supposed to know the exact calories and stuff?
anybody please give me any suggestions or a way to diet without counting calories every single damn day
I’ve been counting calories for two years now. :s I don’t find it that bad. I use calorie king. It helps alot. I always go out to eat. I know what choices are good for every restaurant I go to. I’m eating 1500 calories a day, since I want to weigh 150 pounds. Sometimes it sucks so bad, I know. For example, sometimes I feel like eating a blizzard from Dairy Queen , but it’s more than 1000 calories!!! crazy!! (it’s the large )so I eat a small sundae instead which is about 300 calories. You should definitely be calorie shifting. I always have one day of eating more than usual.(only about 300-400 over the usual) You should confuse the body and not stay at 1200 all the time . **(from website below)Calorie cycling provides same amount of calories per week, but ‘tricks’ your body by constantly changing daily calories. This helps to prevent or break plateaus**. In calorie king , you will know exactly how much calories there are. I don’t like salads, I eat anything I want . I just look at the calories. Some salads are worse than another food you might like even more. Hope this helped a bit.
These are sites I use alot. (they are all free) I really don’t know anything else that is good for dieting :/ only calorie counting. I’ll be following the post to see if there is anything better out there .
